Dry ice and Products
- Dry ice, scientifically known as carbon dioxide ice, is the solid form of carbon dioxide.
- At room temperature, it goes directly from solid form to gaseous form through a process called sublimation.
- Dry ice has a temperature of -78.5 degrees Celsius, that is, extremely cold!
- Store dry ice in an insulated container - the better the insulation, the slower the sublimation to CO₂ gas. A styrofoam container is always included when we buy dry ice.
- Store the container in as cold an environment as possible, such as a refrigerator or freezer.
- Do not store dry ice in an airtight container or glass container, as the sublimation of dry ice causes an airtight container to expand and crack.
- Always store the container with the lid closed, as dry ice lasts longer.
- Always wear insulating gloves when handling dry ice, as it is extremely cold (-78.5 °C) and can cause frostbite if it comes into direct contact with the skin.
- Use tools such as tongs or scoops when handling dry ice, to avoid direct contact with the skin.Use dry ice in well-ventilated areas.
- When dry ice sublimates, carbon dioxide is released, which can lead to oxygen deficiency in poorly ventilated areas.
- Keep dry ice away from children and pets, as they may not understand the risks and may injure themselves.
- Allow dry ice to sublimate in a well-ventilated area or outdoors. Do not throw dry ice into garbage, toilets or drains.
